March 13 - apply to job

April 17 - interview for job

May 13 - receive offer letter for job!!

This is me, walking away from Purdue University making my way to......

RICE UNIVERSITY!!

In the fall, I will be joining Rice University as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in STEM Education. Y'ALL. The excitement.

AND I will be working with a Black woman PI in a majority minority research lab. As a marginalized scholar whose research has focused on mentoring, socialization, and marginalized students and faculty, the importance of having Black faculty mentors work with me each step of my academic career/studies is not lost on me.

Drs. Jefferson Moore & English - undergrad and master's mentors. Big sisters. 💖

Dr. Esters. Boss advisor and mentor. ✊🏾

Not to mention all of my peer mentors, friendtors, and family mentors!

I could cry thinking about how blessed I am to have seen and interacted with so many Black faculty. My Black faculty supervisors/advisors/mentors at each step have exemplified Black excellence in research, teaching, and celebrating each other.

What am I doing now? For now, I am taking it all in and feeling all the feels.

I am staying inside, slapping keys, and minding my business.

I remember when you first started at Purdue, you were not a fan of the weather and it didn't really feel like a home to you. I'm glad your relationships and experiences were able to make up for that! Here's hoping the best for you at Rice, maybe even a visit from the Lee's in the future!
