On Saturday, August 3rd I walked across the stage, was hooded by my advisor, received a hug from the provost (former dean of my college), and a hug from the current dean of agriculture. The day was long yāall. So long, but so good.
8:25 am: I am running out of the house. Graduates were to arrive at 8:00 am to check in, take their photo, and line up.
8:33 am: I am doing 80 down Highway 231. Iām almost there.
8:45 am: I check in, walk into the bathroom, and see my homegirl ā Dr. Mrs. Amba Johnson, the first African American woman to receive a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Purdue. We scream when we see each other.

9:00 am: I am in line and we are walking to the location graduation is held. I am receiving messages to make sure I made it lol. (Not a morning person and I recently moved 20 minutes away from campus)
9:30 am: Commencement starts.
10:02 am: I am on stage being hooded by my advisor. What a rush. What a feeling. I was (and still am) overwhelmed.
After that the times are blurry, but I know I got hungry and started eating snacks (my robe has pockets).
Following graduation, we all met up outside to take photos, kee-kee, and celebrate. And boy did we celebrate.
A huge thanks to my family, my friends from home, and my Purdue community for holding me down through this journey and for coming out to celebrate me with me.

Now that everyone has gotten home safely, itās time to get back to work. Purdue allows some students to participate in commencement and enroll as exam only the next semester to finish up. Now I have to finish up and defend my dissertation. Lots of key slapping and typing fast.
